Mexican temporary residency.

if you are retired, pensioner or employee who has a monthly income and you are planning to spend more than 180 days in Mexico you could apply for a visa as a “Temporary Residency”.   This type of visa is to those foreign visitors who intend to enter and remain in Mexico as temporary residents for a period greater than 180 days and up 4 years.
If you wish to apply for a temporary residency visa there are several categories to apply for it, however the most common is under financial solvency category:
Under this category you will have to prove that during the previous six months that you have been receiving from employment/pension monthly income of at least US$2,593/ CAD$3,339.00 for the past 6 months per-person or, to prove that you have investments or bank accounts with an average monthly balance Overall to US$43,217.50/ CAD$55,655 for the past 12 months per-person.
The Mexican Consulates will collect a US$48- CAD$64 fee per visa, upon issuance. When obtaining your temporary residency card (By 1 year) at the INM immigration office in Mexico, you will pay a fee of $4,739 Mexican pesos. Furthermore, it is relevant for foreigner interested in applying for a temporary visa to considerer the following information:
In mostly Mexican consulates the financial requirement is the one mentioned on the above lines, however some Mexican Consulates the amount will be a little higher or a little less, for this reason is extremely important to confirm with the consulate where you’ll be applying the financial requirement amount that is handle by them. As the amount can vary depending as the exchange rate.

Mexico Permanent residency

Temporary Residents benefits:
• All rights of Mexican Citizens except voting.
• To open a Mexican bank account.
• Access to healthcare and education system.
• To remain in Mexico for more than 180 days and less than 4 years (this means that after one year of being temporary resident in Mexico, you will be able to renew your temporary residency up 3 years more.
Temporary Residents duties:
• Must to inform the Institute (immigration office) of their change of marital status, domicile, nationality, within the following ninety calendar days of their occurrence.
• Must to renew the temporary residency within 30 days before of the expiration date of your temporary residency card.
• Entry to the country, the temporary resident must show the current passport and the temporary Resident Card.

Temporary Residents cannot:

  • Personally, own land close to borders or beach (Must form trust/ fideicomiso)
  • Resident foreign never have to leave or enter Mexico without their Resident Cards, because this will make that the migratory condition of Temporary Residency will be cancelled.
  • A temporary resident is not allowed it to work iin Mexico until a work permit is requested and approved by the INM immigration office.
